Socially Conscious Investing features Beauty of Water today, June 22, 2011. Because Socially Conscious Investing online radio’s goal is to address the myriad of ways people can contribute to the betterment of the planet, we decided to include the arts. Liza Behrendt, the founder of Beauty of Water is a wonderful example of taking your passions and applying them such that others, around the world, can benefit.
As an artist, Liza, who is based in Edmonds Washington near Seattle, travels the world to inspire people and help them connect with their essence through art. She has a Master’s Degree in Transformative Learning and combines it with her improvisational movement and theater, professional knowledge in arts-based counseling, healing arts and teaching to bring a holistic approach to the projects of Beauty of Water. These projects are facilitated by an all-volunteer team that generates collaborative art experiences in communities around the world on the theme of appreciation for water.
Transformative Learning is a process of implementing sustainable change. There are three dimensions to the transformation: psychological (changes in understanding of the self), convictional (revision of belief systems), and behavioral (changes in lifestyle).
Focus on environmental concerns is an important part of Beauty of Water‘s work. Educating and increasing awareness that water is connected in a continuous cycle, no matter where in the world you stand, is central to all of the projects. Liza is active with a number of eco-art activities. Here are a few of the organizations that Liza mentions that use the arts to promote environmental awareness:
EcoArtNetwork
WEADArtists
ArtHeals
