Green Building: Recycled Compressed Straw Board Ranks High with USGBC.

Tim Evans of Stramit USA introduces the newest green building solution providing a negative carbon footprint along with a myriad of other construction and environmental benefits.

Stramit USA, a company utilizing Stramit UK technology, has introduced green building construction board that has been used in Europe for over 80 years. The recycled wheat straw, Compressed Agricultural Fiber or CAF board, not only provides a dramatic improvement over straw bale construction, a technology currently used for energy efficiency in green housing, it replaces particle board and other construction materials while being:

  • non-toxic,
  • mold and pest resistant,
  • energy efficient,
  • highly sound absorbent,
  • nearly fireproof.

Due to the fact it comes pre-sized to architectural specifications, it facilitates a faster building process and leaves virtually no waste thereby saving time and overall construction expense while preventing building site hazards and saving on landfill expense.

Stramit’s vision is to not only advance green building but to also provide an incubator for other green businesses focused on this technology. The recycled straw can be compressed to make sheetrock, door fill that replaces petroleum foam products while improving energy efficiency and sound-proofing, and a number of other construction products. Regional expansion will maintain its negative carbon footprint and USGBC standards while simultaneously helping farmers nation-wide by giving them a secondary cash crop, the straw stubble left behind from wheat.
